Pergola Hill Gardens Engagement Session
“Wow, thank you so much Phil! You did such an amazing job – we really enjoyed ourselves and you put us both at ease and we did not feel awkward at all. We love them all, can’t wait for the wedding!” – Danielle & George
A few weekends ago I had the pleasure of doing an engagement session for Danielle & George. As always the location is up to my couples and they chose Hampstead Pergola Hill Gardens. This was my first time at the gardens and what a place! The Hill Gardens is one of the hidden gems of Hampstead Heath and this Hampstead wedding photographer couldn’t wait to get inside to take photos. The Pergola Hill Garden is absolutely beautiful, it’s actually a well thought out landscaped garden which was the private garden of a now demolished manor house.

Upon arrival I met Danielle & George and we headed straight to the main entrance. Danielle & George are such a relaxed couple and clearly very much in love. They had no problem just being themselves in front of me which was great and makes my job a breeze. They are planning to get married at the Old Rectory in Berkshire which will be just perfect as this is a stunning venue to tie the knot in.
With the weather at its hottest all year we decided to head for some shade and cool down. One of the great luxurys of the Hill Gardens is that there’s plenty of lush foliage which cast great shadows. As we walked around taking photos as we went it was great to see Danielle and George at one with each other. I always say to my couples just be yourselves and we will get some great photos. These guys did not disappoint.
Is an Engagement Session Really Necessary?
I believe having an engagement photo session is important for two reasons. First, this time allows you, as a couple, to get comfortable in front of the camera with me, and figure out how you work best together before the main event.
Next, you can showcase your personalities in a more casual setting, while creating some fun, memorable images for wall portraits, wedding sign-in books and the like. So relax and kick back as this will be a doddle, please feel free to browse some of my favourite photos from a few engagement sessions here.
With our time together almost up and the heat starting to get uncomfortable we decide to make one final loop back through the beautiful gardens and away from the crowds to get some finally photos. The Pergola Hill Gardens is quite the hot spot for the public so it was great fun for me to try and find little nooks and crannies to put Danielle & George into away from the public eye. With lots of foliage and vines everywhere this made for great photos, especially in the summer when every flower is in bloom.
